Nutrition Education

Balanced Choices ®
is Chartwells' comprehensive approach to health and wellness teaching students and the school community how to make sound choices for healthy lifestyles. Balanced Choices Meal Selections meet precise nutritional criteria which exceed USDA Guidelines and incorporate more whole grains, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and low-fat options into the menu. Additionally, this award-wining nutrition program provides nutrition education and a Meal Guidance System which assists students in making the most nutritious options when selecting meals, snacks, and beverages at school.

10-Minutes Lesson Plans
Developed by Chartwells Registered Dietitians, the 10-Minute Nutrition Lesson Plans target lower elementary, upper elementary, middle and high school students on different topics of interest that include breakfast, food and cultures and sustainability. Lesson topics coincide with the Chartbusters promotional calendar and are scripted to be quick and easy to teach, fun, and age appropriate. Each lesson includes a teacher-guide for each three key areas: the EAT cafeteria connection, a LEARN 10-minute classroom lesson, and a LIVE home activity. The plans are practical way to help teachers incorporate more nutrition education into the classroom and promote the Chartwells philosophy of EAT.LEARN.LIVE.
