In the first three episodes, Karen Thomas, the district chef for the Chartwells Swansea school lunch program, prepared a ham, a turkey meatloaf with barbecue sauce, a French toast bake, healthy snacks and more. The new local cooking program, Cardinal Bistro, appears on Swansea Cable Access and online.

Seattle Sounders FC players were at Showalter Middle School the morning of March 21, 2017, a well-deserved prize for taking first place in last year’s Breakfast Challenge, hosted by United Way of King County. Both adults and children at East Vincent Elementary School took advantage of the Irish holiday to show just how green they could be. Students and staff celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by going green through large bow ties, full-body costumes and more. All the elementary schools in the Owen J. Roberts School District took advantage of the colorful holiday this week by introducing students to healthy spinach smoothies.

Lunchtime at Burton Elementary School had a new feature Monday: a taste test.
After picking up their lunch trays, kindergarten through fifth-grade students were given two “Rockin’ Roasted Potatoes” — one red potato wedge, one Yukon potato wedge — to sample. Some were excited to see a familiar food, though prepared in a way they may not be used to.
