The Sounder reps presented the school with the Breakfast Challenge Championship Cup and also showed off their own hardware, the MLS Cup. The Breakfast Challenge is a contest to encourage students to participate in their school breakfast programs. The idea is simple: When kids eat better, they learn better. Showalter Middle School won by achieving the greatest increase in students eating breakfast during the competition period compared to the same time period the previous year. That number was a whopping 75 percent at Showalter, due to the introduction of a free-breakfast-for-all program, served right before the first bell. (Note: every Tukwila school now offers free breakfast to all students during the beginning of the school day.)
The Sounders also provided tickets for students to attend an upcoming match.
Way to go, Showalter—breakfast makes brighter brains … and Sounders visit your school! Keep eating those nutritious meals.
